4. COMMUNITY PLANNING
We provide general planning services to communities as follows:
- Foster public outreach in the municipal planning process through visioning sessions, charrettes, facilitated meetings and workshops, public opinion surveys, press releases, community image surveys, neighborhood and stakeholder brainstorming sessions, and other methods of determining public goals and the priorities attached to them.
- Prepare and update comprehensive plans, open space plans, farmland protection plans, waterfront revitalization plans, scenic protection plans.
- Prepare and update zoning and subdivision regulations, biomass, wind, and solar energy standards, LEED and other green building standards, affordable housing, senior housing and other special needs housing regulations, and other land use controls to guide community development.
- Prepare local laws, standards and guidelines for conservation and protection of open space, wetlands, steep slopes, scenic roads and viewsheds, historic resources, coastal resources, public water supplies and watershed areas, agricultural lands, and other important resources.
- Conduct training sessions for municipal boards, to provide a better understanding of land use planning in general and New York State's planning and zoning enabling statutes.
- Review and provide comment on proposed site plans, subdivision plans, special use permit applications, and zoning variances along with their required environmental impact assessments.
- Provide expert testimony, if needed, to support our recommendations.
